Colorado’s IN THE COMPANY OF SERPENTS Make Rapid City Their 1st Stop On Tour
Joining Local Heavyweights Ruins A.D., Drifter, and Born To Suffer
As we round the first corners of Fall, the wind blows through the Black Hills of South Dakota. Riding in on the breezes hinting of winter is In The Company Of Serpents out of Denver, Colorado. They bring with them their own brand of darkened doom in support of their latest album, A Crack In Everything.
This will be the first foray into Rapid City for In The Company Of Serpents, and hopefully many more to come. Joining them is a loaded bill full of local acts, including:
In the Company of Serpents
Formed in Denver in 2011, In the Company of Serpents began as a two-piece sludge and doom metal project led by guitarist and vocalist Grant Netzorg. The band has since expanded into a trio, with Ben Pitts on bass and lap steel guitar and Andy Thomas on drums. Their sound combines heavy, slow-burning riffs with elements of blues, psychedelia and even spaghetti western soundtracks. Their latest album, A Crack in Everything, released in July 2025, draws from Netzorg’s experiences with addiction, depression and recovery. Recorded to analog tape in Denver, the album moves between crushing distortion and stripped-down passages, offering a good introduction to the band’s range.
Ruins After Death (Ruins A.D.) – A one man sonic onslaught who performs for the 2nd time in Rapid City. Ruins A.D.’s 1st show stirred a buzz in the area for something different, harkening back to bands like Skinny Puppy, but holding something fresh and new.
Drifter – This titanic doom offering has existed for decades, but this will be their first show in Rapid City. You may well know the members as making up 2/3 of local desert rockers Chongo. This incarnation will bring something darker and heavier into the ring of local talent.
Born To Suffer – Already holding a following in Rapid City as one of the most technically sound and mind-blowing bands, they’ll be locally debuting their new singer, Daniel Awe. And between us, I got a sneak preview of this addition a couple weeks ago. Previously thought impossible, but Born To Suffer has climbed to an even higher level.
Don’t waste your Thursday night by staying at home. This all ages show will be one not to miss in the Black Hills.
Ten dollars, all ages, and starting at 7pm… We’ll see you at the AFL-CIO Labor Temple in Rapid City.
