About
Elaine Romero-Douglas is a born-and-raised Black Hills singer-songwriter with roots in indie, folk and pop. She has been part of the regional music scene for more than a decade, with documented performances in Rapid City and Spearfish dating back to at least 2011. Her work centers on original songwriting, carried by a vocal style fellow South Dakota musician Jami Lynn once described as “emotive, yet restrained and intimate.”
In 2018, Romero-Douglas released Phantasm, an 11-song album that moves through songs including “Origami,” “Frostbite Lullaby,” “Drunk, Sad & Doing the Dishes,” “Ghost” and “Metaphor.” Apple Music categorizes the record as alternative folk, while Romero-Douglas has also described her broader sound in indie, folk and pop terms.
Romero-Douglas continues to perform throughout the Black Hills, bringing a long-running local songwriting practice to stages around the region. Her music balances feeling with wit and a distinctly personal approach to writing, making her part of the deeper bench of Black Hills musicians who have been building work here for years rather than simply passing through.
