Jalan Crossland

Jalan Crossland is a Wyoming-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for a live style that leans as much on storytelling and presence as it does on technical ability. Working primarily with acoustic guitar and banjo, his sets move between fast, intricate picking and songs built around characters pulled from small-town Western life.

Raised in a rural Wyoming mountain town, Crossland’s writing stays close to that world—songs about roughneck work, bar fights, drifting, and the kinds of places that don’t usually make it into polished Americana. There’s humor in it, but it’s usually sitting next to something darker, with a delivery that feels loose and unpredictable rather than rehearsed.

On stage, he’s known for holding attention without much structure—shifting between stories, jokes, and songs, often stretching a solo set into something that feels bigger than one person. That approach has kept him moving steadily through festivals and regional circuits across the West and Midwest, including stops at Deadwood Jam and other Black Hills events.

Technically, Crossland’s playing has earned national recognition, including a runner-up finish at the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship and a state flatpick title in Wyoming. His album Singalongs for the Apocalypse also picked up Wyoming Public Radio’s People’s Choice Album of the Year.

But most of his reputation comes from the room itself—sets where the crowd leans in, then stays.
