Greenway Days 2026

Friends of Rapid City Parks will host the third annual Greenway Days celebration June 11-14, bringing four days of free, family-friendly events to locations along Rapid City’s greenway system. The event honors the 238 lives lost in the 1972 Black Hills Flood while celebrating the greenway that was created in the flood’s aftermath. Activities include fly fishing, trail runs, yoga, live music, art exhibits, community games and a retro roller-skating night. The celebration begins June 11 with the Riparian Restoration Series at The Journey Museum featuring Theodore Roosevelt historical interpreter Joe Wiegand. Events continue June 12 with a 5K fun run and concert at Founders Park, followed by a full day of activities June 13 and a closing day of outdoor recreation and entertainment June 14. Friends of Rapid City Parks Board President Chris Stover said the event is an opportunity to celebrate one of the city’s most valuable community spaces while remembering those lost in the flood and encouraging future generations to protect the greenway.
