Hot Air Balloon Rally

Weather permitting, the Hot Air Balloon Rally is one of the signature traditions of Gold Discovery Days in Custer. Before sunrise, colorful balloons inflate across Pageant Hill and launch into the morning sky, creating one of the most photographed sights of the festival. Early risers can watch pilots prepare their balloons before drifting above the southern Black Hills as weather conditions allow. Because launches depend on wind and visibility, each morning is unique, making every rally a memorable experience for visitors and photographers alike.
